James {Jim} Barwick – Henry Co. Alabama

My Great Great Grandfather, James {Jim} BARWICK was born in Alabama, Feb 1860 & according to the 1870 Henry Alabama Census, he was 1 of 7 children {siblings Ann, LaVina, Lilly, Vina, John, Marion & Benia} born to Mulatto parents, Cary & Ann BARWICK.

It isn’t difficult, even without the census, to conclude that Grandpa James was of mixed blood when looking at the portrait of him & Grandma Laura Barwick.

James married Laura ROSS on the 12th of September in 1880. I am working on obtaining a copy of the marriage license!

The 1900 Dothan, Alabama Census shows James & Laura married 18 years & living with their 8 children. Although the census taker slaughtered their names, we know the children as John, Lee, Aulby, Raymond {my Great Grandfather}, Cleveland, Rosie, Paralee & Mattie.

Grandpa James passed on the 17th of September in 1922.

Our growing Alabama BARWICK family tree has been posted to Ancestry.com.

Lest we forget…

Luckie.
